THIS ISSUE of The Orthodox Word is devoted to two very different saints of the Russian Orthodox Church: Blessed Andrei of Simbirsk and New Hiero-confessor John (Kevroletin) of Siberia. Blessed Andrei, from the age of seven, took on the severe feat of foolishnessfor Christ, continually maintaining this rare form of asceticism until his repose in the mid nineteenth century at the age of seventy-eight.' Although his actions were often incomprehensible to those around him, and he was at rimes subjected to ridicule, by the end of his life he had become so beloved by the people of his city that virtually every citizen of Simbirsk was present at his funeral.
